hello all as a new member I would like to share some pictures of my Hungarian trabant , it spent its life in a town called jaszbereny in hungary where it had just the one owner , it was built on 11th October 1988 , almost a year roughly before the fall of the berlin wall , I would love to know and hear your thoughts on it ! :)

I have a 1990 Trabi over in Hungary and is one of the very last 2 strokes to come of the production line. My Trabi over here in the UK is from 1989, but I have no idea what country it came from before it was imported.
Your car looks to be mint and I love the colour.

There are some pictures in the "garage" section of the Forum. Its under "KY Trabi". I wasn't the one doing the importing of the car so I didn't have to wait on all the shipping. The original owners were from Jászapáti and they sold the car to a fellow forum member. To my understanding he shipped the car to Texas and then at some point sold it to a gentleman in Louisiana. I located the car on this forum in the for sale section and was able to strike a deal with the gentleman in Louisiana. So it wasn't really a direct route from Hungary to Kentucky. My wife is Hungarian (born and raised) and on a trip over there to visit her I was introduced to the Trabant . After we got married I told her we had to have one and i was able to use to forum to track one down in the states. That's really all the history I know.

Mine came from Csongrad Hungary and also had one owner but has in nowhere near the condition yours is in. Mine appeared to have the original spark plug wires, fuel line and fan belts. Only "required" maintenance appeared to be done on mine.

Mine came from Hungary purchased recently from a guy in West London who says he has imported many into UK
He is Hungarian but says it's harder now to find good ones
I have it's "passport" documents,a passport size folder with a modern looking document in 3 parts
that shows last owner, when last taxed & vehicle details
There is also a credit size plastic card with the last owners detail he would be 80 now.
Maybe he passed away & the vehicle was sold by his family, who knows.
It may have been quite common for owner to keep cars for many years, some having just one owner.
Mine was born 1990 04 24 & last lived near Budapest

Just now going through the minefield of insurance & DVLA but we will get there
A few things to do but seems basically sound
Will put some pics up soon

Yes I do like my trabi's a lot. The one over here is straight and in quite good nick and lives out side. The one in Hungary is kept in a garage and in as new condition. It only had one owner who was an old boy,he brought it new and always kept it in a garage. He would never take it out if it was raining or snowing.
