I bought a two-pack of Ever Ready watch batteries today at Wal Mart. I popped one out of the pack and on the back of the battery it said "Varta / Germany".

Surprising that Wal-Mart would actually sell a product that carries an American brand name that was not made in China!

I actually saw on the news about a week ago that Wal-Mart vowed to start carrying more "MADE IN USA" products and less "MADE IN CHINA" products

Wasn't necessarily intending to "bust" walmart on this, just to register my surprise that an "American" brand item bought in the quintessential American store would turn out to be made in Germany of all places. China, sure. I can see how they undercut our production costs so much that it's still worth it to ship their stuff across the world, but how does Germany do it? Varta is a huge brand in Europe; I expect it's Varta pulling the strings now rather than Ever Ready. I will check on that though.

CORRECTION sorry I was wrong it is Ray O Vac on the package. Not Ever Ready. And it turns out Ray O Vac has bought the battery part of Varta, not the other way around as I surmised in the previous post. So, lesson to me: check before typing.
